“Working with children and youth in the mental health field was something I knew I wanted to do from a young age. Being someone who experiences mental illness within my immediate family, it has fueled my passion to gain knowledge, seek resources and help advocate for change and eliminating stigma. Children and youth are our future. We need to increase awareness, support, and services available to help promote growth and mental wellness.” – Darci
Upon graduation from Fanshawe College in 2011, Darci joined Wellkin Child & Youth Mental Wellness with a diploma as a Social Service Worker (SSW). Darci brings with her, a passion for children’s mental health, a team oriented attitude and drive to create awareness and help eliminate stigma within the community.
Darci started at Wellkin in the Section 23 Day Treatment Program helping to develop and implement the basic skills using social skill building strategies and therapeutic games and activities. Communication, interaction, making friends, managing feelings, and problem solving strategies were often the focus. In 2012/13 Darci progressed into an internal Support and Marketing role that brings on a whole new set of skill building opportunities. This new role is multi-faceted and encompasses intake services, all administrative and clerical duties as well as psychiatric services for treating psychiatrist Dr. E. P. Ralyea.
Darci excels in front line service in the mental health field as she acquires strong self-awareness skills, current and relevant knowledge in community resources, and strong time management and multi-tasking skills which are crucial to her role. Darci is very proud to be a part of the team at Wellkin and looks forward to growing with the agency for years to come. Darci is excited to continue to help children/youth and families flourish within our community.
