Therapy Service

Program Description

Therapy Service is a goal-focused, strengths-based therapeutic approach that supports children, youth, and their families who are experiencing mental health challenges that impact functioning in some areas of daily life (e.g., home, school, and/or community).

Grounded in a strengths-based and family-centred approach, the focus of this service is on reducing symptoms, improving functioning, and building resilience by enhancing existing strengths, skills, and resources.

Program Goals

  • To provide timely and equitable access to therapeutic support to children, youth, and their families at the point of identified need;
  • To deliver evidence-informed, developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions aligned with the level and complexity of identified mental health needs;
  • To ensure that services are responsive and appropriately matched to the level and type of mental health needs identified;
  • To engage children, youth, and their families in collaborative goal setting and service planning that reflects their strengths, preferences, and priorities;
  • To support the development of practical coping strategies, emotional regulation skills, and problem-solving abilities;
  • To improve functioning across key domains, including home, school, and community; and
  • To monitor progress and adjust interventions as needed to achieve meaningful and measurable outcomes.

Eligibility Criteria

Therapy Service is available to children and youth from 7 to 17 years of age who:

  • Are experiencing mental health challenges that affect functioning in some areas of daily life (e.g., home, school, or community), ranging from emerging to significant, but not across all domains; and
  • Are able to engage in a goal-focused therapeutic process, with involvement from family/caregivers as appropriate.

Referral and Intake Process

  • Accessing our services begins at Central Intake. To facilitate the intake process, we recommend that you complete the online self-referral form, available here.
  • If you prefer to complete the self-referral over the telephone, please call us at 1-877-539-0463, and our team will support you.
  • Once a referral is received, our team will contact you to schedule an intake appointment, where we will get to know your strengths, needs, and concerns, and complete a standardized screening tool to better understand the level of support required; this process helps determine whether this service is the best fit or if an alternate service may better meet your or your child’s unique needs.
